The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), Western States Climate Equity Campaign, and the Allensworth Progressive Association are proud to release a new video, amplifying the story of the Allensworth community in Central Valley, California, on their self-sufficient path towards sustainable land management. Our video discusses the town's history and social and environmental injustices, outlines the Central Valley land transition and how Allensworth is building a resilient community through regenerative agriculture and land stewardship, and looks towards a future where other communities adopt similar food and energy sovereignty systems and sustainable, local economies.
Premiered on June 21st, 2026 at the Roxbury International Film Festival!
“The Earth is teaching us what it needs. Just as we need food every day, the Earth needs us to give it attention every day.”

Land Acknowledgement
Allensworth is on the unceded ancestral lands of the Wowol Yokuts. Tulare Lake was surrounded by three Yokuts tribes - the Wowol, Tachi, and Chunut - and the lake was the center of their lifeways and creation stories. Allensworth is within the traditional territory of the Wowol, the area of the beaver. Chawlown was a Wowol village near present-day Allensworth that moved with the tides of Tulare Lake. After decades of colonial violence and the erasure of the lake, many of the Wowol ended up at the Santa Rosa Rancheria, which belongs to the Tachi Yokuts Tribe. The Allensworth Progressive Association is committed to centering the stories and lives of the Tachi Yokuts and other Tulare Basin Indigenous and Native communities as foundational and integral to the growth of Allensworth and its many cultures.
