Cultural Celebrations
Celebration is at the heart of our community. It’s how we honor our roots, connect with one another, and build a shared sense of pride.
During a Community Resilience Center meeting, a young person asked, “Why aren’t there more activities for youth in Allensworth?” That question sparked action. Residents came together to form a Committee and launched the first annual Fall Festival.
What began as a youth-focused event quickly grew into a vibrant expression of Allensworth’s community spirit. Today, a growing series of cultural celebrations takes place throughout the year. Gatherings like Cafecitos bring neighbors together, creating space for connection, culture, and shared experiences.
These events not only celebrate who we are, but they also strengthen the sense of belonging and resilience that unites our community.
Past Events
Fall Festival & Día de los Muertos
Each fall, the Allensworth community gathers at the Allensworth Community Center for the annual Fall Festival, a celebration of local talent, culture, and community spirit. The event features family-friendly activities, a produce market, and resource booths highlighting programs and partnerships that serve local residents. Community partners, including the Farm team, also share opportunities such as the BFTP, Explorer Course, and Project-Based Youth Program.
A special highlight for youth is the pumpkin patch, where children can pick out pumpkins and enjoy seasonal activities. Some of the first pumpkins for the festival were provided by Mr. Alonso, helping create a tradition that continues to bring joy to local families each year.
Black History Month
February brought a vibrant community celebration honoring the legacy of Black leaders and the rich history of Allensworth. The gathering featured a soul food potluck where neighbors came together to share food, stories, and fellowship. Attendees learned about influential figures such as Col. Allensworth, Nettie Morrison, and others who helped shape the community. Powerful vocal and dance performances highlighted and celebrated the enduring legacy of Black history in Allensworth
Women's History Month
March brought a heartfelt celebration honoring the women of Allensworth for Women’s History Month. The Community Center was beautifully decorated with creative floral arrangements by talented CAC members, helping make the event feel special and uplifting for everyone who attended
Earth Day & Arbor Day
The Earth Day Community Clean-Up began as a collaborative effort between Tule Trash and APA, helping residents clear out trash from their homes. Since then, it has grown into a community-wide event featuring intergenerational activities that bring neighbors together while promoting environmental stewardship and highlighting the power of collective efforts in protecting the planet for future generations
Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a cherished celebration honoring the vital role of mothers and caregivers in the community. Allensworth marked the occasion at the Community Center, where attendees received special treats and had the opportunity to take professional photos with their children, creating memorable moments that celebrated the moms of Allensworth.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
In September, residents gathered for a cafecito to share favorite homemade dishes, including mole, flautas de papa, posole, empanadas de calabaza, and more. Teachers from Allensworth School also presented on Hispanic Heritage Month, fostering connections between residents, parents, and APA staff while celebrating the community’s rich cultural heritage.
Allensworth Community Holiday Potluck
December brought the community together to celebrate the holiday season with joy and connection. A festive community potluck drew one of the largest gatherings of the year, where families shared traditional dishes like posole, champurrado, and Filipino favorites. Children also received cookie decorating kits to enjoy at home with their families. The season concluded with the annual toy drive, where Santa and Mrs. Claus made a special visit to Allensworth Elementary School, arriving on a Tulare County Fire Department engine. Thanks to the generosity of community members and donors, every youth in Allensworth received a holiday gift.
Filipino American History Month & Indigenous People’s Day
Filipino American History Month and Indigenous Peoples’ Day were celebrated during our Fall Festival to honor the history and resilience of the Filipino community and the Tachi’s, who hold deep cultural ties. The United Filipino Organization at Delano High School performed a traditional dance called Tinikling, while youth from the Tachi Yokut dance group shared the meanings behind their names, dances, and cultural history.
Together, these performances celebrated identity, resilience, and shared community values, weaving a rich tapestry of cultural pride and connection.
